Gisborne Rotary Club members built this steep track up to a bluff lookout at the western end of Whitaker Street within the road reserve. Members planted flax bushes and young trees along the path then presented the track to Harry Barker, Gisborne Mayor, as representative of the city, in a ceremony in July 1974. Since then, Rotary Club members have periodically cleared the Acacia from around a seating area at the lookout to maintain the city views, and have also maintained the track and signage.

Old oak and gum trees, as well as regenerating native bush and weed trees make this a lovely shady walk. The lookout is just a 20 minute return walk from the Ormond Road/Wi Pere Street roundabout, but it is a good workout, and a great training track if you do this several times in succession!
